Battle Mage Regiment

In most countries and armies the basic unit of organization of battle mages is a regiment. The origins of modern regiments dates back to the 19th century. Most historians agree that battle mage regiments in the Napoleon's army were the prototype of all later regiments. During the Napoleonic Era the organization and equipment of battle mage regiments became much more standardized than it was earlier. Before that battle mages were often mixed in with other types of infantry formations. Throughout the 18th century some countries were experimenting with new organizations for battle mages.

Composition

Manpower

In most countries battle mage regiments are made up of 2000 soldiers divided into 2 battalions, 1000 soldiers each. Battalions are usually divided into 4 companies (250 soldiers each). Those then are divided into platoons and squads.

Weaponry

In most cases, battle mages have only a sidearm in a form of a pistol and no other weapons. During a battle, they mostly use magic instead of weapons. Sometimes they can use some objects as spell enhancements. Examples of such objects are metal rods, tubes, wooden objects or pieces of fabric.

Isn't the Napoleonic Era a big milestone in military history? However, I will have to think about the differences. Thank you!

Yes it's a very big milestones that changed all of Europe's armies. Though that is because Napoléon and his predecessors made a bunch of very important changes to the armies and the tactics the were using. I'd like to know what's the equivalent in your world :D I'm sure people were already throwing mages together in battalions before that :p
