Strangle fern

Strangle fern is known to imitate and grow among other ferns, specifically in the Riverlands. It shares almost all characteristics of the normal harmless fern, yet with a more grim and deadly distinction.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The strangle fern is a land plant and part of the vascular plant group, this means they have lignified tissues that can conduct water and minerals throughout the plant. Not only is this tissue important for transport within the plant, but also makes the plant able to grow larger than smaller non-vascular plants. The strangle fern have non-lignified tissue too which makes sure the plant can utilize photosynthesis. This fern also have deeper and stronger roots than almost all plants the same size, because of the need to out muscle creatures. It has overall stronger stems and leaves, all needed to be able to grab and not break during a physical struggle.

Genetics and Reproduction

The strangle fern exclusively reproduces via spores no seeds nor flowers, this makes ferns very similar to mosses but moss isn't a vascular plant. Seeds would also be terrible for this type of fern, due to its' aggressive natur towards other strange ferns.

Growth Rate & Stages

Strangle ferns grow slightly faster than most other ferns, due to having bigger root and another method other than photosynthesis to gather nutrition.

Ecology and Habitats

Strangle ferns are known to not play well together, if two grow too close they might confuse each other for prey and begin strangle one another. This will lead to one of the plants being uprooted and the other heavily damaged, this is why you never see too strangle ferns close.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The strangle fern can sustain just fine with photosynthesis alone, yet over time with only photosynthesis it will loose some of its' strength and becomes more fern-like. Their carnivorous diet mostly consist of deer, sheep and smaller animals.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The strangle fern is able to detect significant movement upon it's leaves, this triggers the plant to grab and strangle the unsuspecting target.
