Carinae Library

You duck through the hatch and find yourself in the pitch dark. When you conjure a light, find yourself in a library.
The library is approximately square, about 20 by 40 feet. You've entered through the long side, and from where you stand, you can see a hatch on the opposite wall, which comes out in the other corridor. You can see this, because it's the only part of the room that isn't floor-to-ceiling shelving.
The corners to your left and across the room to your right both have compact shelving units, i.e. the ones that slide. Both are closed, locked in place with brakes, and thus the only parts of the library that aren't strewn with loose books. Because a funny thing happens when a library gets shaken around by an eldritch abomination. The only reason there's patches of bare floor, is the loose books ended up tumbling to one side at some point in the confrontation.
When you open the shelving units, you find hundreds upon hundreds of journals. Each journal seems to be by crew member, although there are a lot of names you don't recognise. The journals are mostly factual, detailing observations, notes, maps, sketches and research results, assuming you can read Gnomish. As for the books on the floor - most appear to be reference material and textbooks in a variety of languages. Under a pile of books, there are Translator's Spectacles which can be used to determine these things.
There's also two desks, one on each end, bolted to the floor. They are standing desks, but for people of gnomish height. Each has a bending light attached, the only sources of light in the room.

Purpose / Function

Ship's logs for the Carinae, to be transcribed to tablet database at the Science Corps headquarters, then transported to the gnomish home planet for storage.
