The Blue Beauty

The crew of the Blue Beauty is a rough band of misfits on a pirate ship looking for adventure, not chained down by the ideals of any one place or culture.

Ideals, Code, and Culture

The crew are drawn together by a love of adventure and a thirst to discover the unknown. Some were taken in by the captain when they were young, like Crowley, while some left their homes to join the crew. They are held together by a mutual respect for their diverse backgrounds and knowledge that all of them have skills that are useful. They know no country or strict law, following their moral judgements and what is best for the crew. The one rule they have is "harm no one unless it is to save the crew."   Captain Theo is the official command of the ship, though the other members of the crew are free to discuss and disagree with the captain, as long as conversation remains civil. Disputes are rare and settled between the crewmembers that fought, and Captain Theo is quick to ensure that conflict doesn't spread to the rest of the crew. Their status as adventurers not bound to a guild means they don't have extra funds to spend outside of what they earn, so much of the crew is responsible with the resources they have and are able to use every last scrap of clothing if they need to.

The Crew

Captain Theo (they/them) “You are always full of surprises, Atia.” The flamboyant and confident elven captain, Captain Theo named themself after the famed pirate Theodosia, who shared their ideal of following your heart and seeking magical places. They are kind to all their crew, though fierce and terrifying during a fight. Rarely seen without their long coat, bandana, and bronze-handled rapier, they are the face of the crew and the name everyone who encounters them remembers.   Ada (she/her) “Crowley, you better not steal anything this time.” Ada is the stern sukhetcook of the crew, and she looks the part. She is plump, but can move with incredible speed, which often surprises her enemies. Her weapon of choice is a kitchen knife and a frying pan, which she wields with accuracy and strength. She is most often found in the kitchen, where she tries to keep the others from stealing food before it's ready.   Crowley "Crow" (he/him) Crow is a friendly young elven boy who found his way onto the ship as a stowaway. He likes to sneak around and climb to the top of the mast to look for adventure. His black hair and small, bony figure earned him his nickname, which he prefers to his real name. He gets into trouble with Ada often for stealing bits of food out of the kitchen, and his curiosity can sometimes be more trouble than it's worth.   Riya (she/her) “Ey, Crow! Dry land getting to your brain?” Riya is a half-siren who found her way on the ship after stealing from a noble and needing a way out of town. She is almost inseprable from her close friend, Atia, who she spends most of her time with. She is particular about her half-siren ancestry, much more so than Atia is, and frequenly corrects people when they say she's a siren.   Atia (she/they) “I won’t disappoint you, Captain.” The most wanderlust-filled member of the group besides possibly Captain Theo themself, Atia was raised in a pod of sirens before discovering the Blue Beauty on one of her adventures. She joined the crew while still young, and proved herself a useful asset. She has the best magic sense of all of the crew, and is often the first to sense danger. She is currently the holder of the Iseana, one of two mage-maps to currently exist.   Rimin (he/him) The only vishi on the crew, Rimin is full of confidence and is often accused of being a risk-taker. He is brash, boastful, and arrogant, but has a kind heart and to his credit, can follow through on many of his boasts. He often invites conflict with the other members of the crew, but Captain Theo and the others are quick to reprimand him and show him where he stands.   Benjamin "Lucky bones" (he/him) An elven storyteller turned pirate, Benjamin is certainly a sight, with tangled brown hair and green eyes piercing as knives. He got his nickname from the set of bone dice he always carries in his pocket. He often takes his luck at sleight of hand and dice games, but always seems to come out ahead. His greatest skill is storytelling and deception. He is able to fabricate lies out of nothing, and has saved the skins of the entire crew many times, passing off the Blue Beauty as a merchant ship or their illicit adventuring as the orders of a non-existent guild.

The Ship

The Blue Beauty is an unnasuming sloop of small size, noticable mainly because of the blue and white sails. She has wethered many storms, and shows the scars on her side. The bowsprit is in the shape of a dragon's head.

A Perineer's Course

The Blue Beauty is notable in that it is one of few ships who still remain on the old course of Perineers, also called Magineers, who sail the seas to seek magic. The profession of magineer was originally formed during the Iksandi empire to find fleeing magefolk and cut down magefolk sea forts, but so many of the ships defected upon sailing and finding the magefolk bases that they formed their own profession, the perineers. The perineer code is simple: first, allegiance to no country or king, and acceptance of all; second, seeking to find magic and protect it from those who would wipe it out; and third, a simple life on the sea, unhindered by excess goods and money. A true perineer seeks to own only what they need and a little more, but not so much as to burden the ship and the perineer's heart.
