The Skyline Incident

A dark day in Madrisan history, the Skyline Incident began as a covert operation by Heiromant Special Operations Command. The publicly disseminated mission brief alleged significant terroristic activity in the Azure Crown arcology complex in Sector 4. With a population of over 400,000 in the primary and secondary spires and another two million in surrounding areas, the destruction of the arcology as a result of the operation's failure was one of the largest catastrophes in the last 250 years.   As one of the premier luxury residential structures of Sector 4, the Azure Crown was a modern marvel of naturalistic engineering and leisure. Designed by the famous Tellos architecture firm and constructed over 6 years, the arcology was a hotspot for newly wealthy families and professionals looking to make inroads in surrounding sectors or retire from accomplished careers. Unfortunately, such places also breed criminality of the highest sort hidden by the glittering steel and glass of ostentatious newbuild. SOC became involved when it was suspected that elements of the terrorist group Obsid67 had established a base in the support levels and were planning a large scale attack against the arcology.   Three squads of SOC operatives were deployed to neutralize this nascent threat but instead precipitated a disaster that collapsed the main area of the arcology and severely damaged the surrounding infrastucture, leading to almost 300,000 deaths and over one million injured citizens. It's unclear from the heavily redacted court documents whether the release of a virus into the control mechanisms for the arcology's central energy sump was intentional on the part of SOC or Obsid67 but regardless this act spiralled out of control and caused cascading systems failures across the arcology. Once this spread to the dynamic support management system, the arcology was doomed. The massive stanchions and seismic response pillars that supported the arcology went into spasm and created a synthetic earthquake of titanic proportions. In a matter of minutes the primary and secondary spires collapsed into a growing sinkhole several hundred kilometers across and thousands perished in this initial collapse.   The death toll continued to rise over the following weeks as emergency excavation and rescue efforts were mounted with limited success. The collapse shocked the world for days until an overwhelming cry for answers prompted a years-long investigation into the incident. Eventually SOC's involvement was uncovered and their failures exposed. Public outcry heightened still further when the prosecution was moved to closed counsel and it seemed a global riot was about to erupt. A series of findings emerged that several prominent members of the arcology's management board were actually members of or closely affiliated with Obsid67 and this deflected much of the public's ire, preventing a global crisis and opening a quiet opportunity for SOC to slip out from culpability. Political historians question the timing of the incident and the exculpatory revelations and advocates for the dissolution of SOC are quick to remind any who will listen of the terrible atrocity that SOC either failed to prevent or directly caused.
