After rescuing Vrex and their child from a derelict freighter, Kaius took them aboard his ship, where they became an essential part of his crew.

Kaius was initally wary of Vrex, but took in the shapeshifter as he felt bad for them and their child. However as the shapeshifter recovered and stuck around to repair and fix up the ship, Kaius found himself growing to rely on Vrex not just for their technical skills but for their companionship. Kaius sees Tali as a responsibility he never expected but has grown very protective of the child.
