Sivas

"Peaceful One"

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Sivas was not the largest specimen of ridgebeak, nor the most flashy colorful once his adult colors appeared. He was, overall, entirely average in appearance. His beak ridges were hooked and sharp, more like fish hooks then serrated knife teeth, and became a vivid red with a blue edge.
When he first appeared, he was frail and skinny, his ability to hunt for himself greatly reduced by a wound that left the tip of his beak broken. This desperation led to his scavenging and eventual gamble with humanoids. Under their care, with a normal supply of food, he grew to be a healthy specimen in spite of his injury.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Wounded and starved, a young Sivas did something previously unheard of. He had approached and aided human hunters of Vi'Vitas, the City of Life. In a hunt for a wild hog, the hunters were about to be gored by the massive pig until the adolescent ridgebeak charged out and shoved the hog off its hooves. The pig recovered and chased the ridgebeak, who led it in circles until the hunters regained their senses enough to spear the wild pig. The ridgebeak fled, until the hunters were butchering the pig, at which point he returned to scavenge anything they left behind.
This became a common occurrence, until the hunters began to leave whole cuts of the prey for the injured ridgebeak. This led Sivas back to the city, where a farmer took over the task of leaving food for him around their flock of prized giant canyon goats.
Sivas became the first ridgebeak to be employed to guard livestock and mounts. Others of his kind, observing the transaction, also began to mimic it during their difficult adolescent years.

Death

Sivas was, by all accounts, a tame ridgebeak for many years, but as he grew larger and his mature colors began to appear, the aggression of adulthood also formed just beneath the surface. He would snap at his handlers, and chase them from the flocks as well. It came to a head when Sivas killed a farmhand ward who was carrying his meal out to him, and the ward’s guardian demanded the bird be put down.
After his death, it became known that ridgebeaks were not pets or even working beasts. They must be released or culled once they begin showing signs of sexual maturity, for their wild natures were too dangerous and unpredictable beyond that point.
