Shadow's Lure

Appearance

Massive pitcher plants, the Shadow Lure is not secretive of its nature. From root to top, the Lure is an average of twelve feet tall, and its pitcher can make up more then half of the overall mass. The lip of its pitcher is lined with sharp, heavy spines, which constantly sharpen each other as the ‘mouth’ opens and closes. Like the muscles of a carnivore’s jaws, dense fibers anchor themselves all along the sides of the Shadow Lure’s pitcher, coiled with energy to snap the mouth shut upon the demons it feeds on.

Habitat

The Shadow Lure is found exclusively in the deepest, darkest zones of the chasms and tunnels throughout Noctuin. People have tried to relocate these plants closer to home, in spite of the scent, for the protection value, but the Lure rapidly dies in even indirect sunlight.

Hunting Method

At the bottom of the pitcher, a film grows on the top of the stomach acids, expelling a strong scent to act as its lure. Its scent lure is so finely tuned that it is nearly irresistible to the carnage seeking demons, but repels most anything else. All it needs is for the demon to peer inside the pitcher, in search of the source of the scent, and the lid will snap shut with bonebreaking force. Once the demon ceases to struggle, it will draw the corpse deeper into the pitcher with tooth-like papillae that cover the interior of the pitcher.
These plants feed on the shadowy essence of the demons, gained by the fiend’s own feeding on darkness, and are not interested in nutrients of sunlight or flesh that other natural creatures and plants seek.
