False Oasis

Appearance

During dawn and dusk, the False Oasis emerges from the sands to open up its sap-covered blue lures, like a large five petal flower. Fully opened, the lures are full five meters across, with the opening at the center of the Oasis being filled with sap as well, releasing the scent of crisp, cool water. The sap is clear and appears to be dew and pools of water to the thirsty creatures of the desert.
When not hunting, the False Oasis will close up into a seed-shaped pod and burrow back into the sand, its charcoal-colored shell protecting against the sand and the worst of the heat.

Hunting Habits

The Oasis’s tactic is all about luring the desperate creatures of the desert into the trap. After long days or nights, prey is more likely to follow the scent of water that comes from the sap. When prey chances a drink, the moisture has addictive but paralytic properties, causing the creature to wander farther until it loses its ability to move. Then the luring petals close on the prey and release acids to dissolve the creature, regaining the moisture lost and excess from the blood and fluids.
