Divine Marks

Marks of the Godtouched

Amongst the tieresi people, there is a phenomenon that appears when a child reaches their second year. Marks will appear on their forearms and brow, consisting of swirls and lines. For paler individuals, these marks are dark, while darker skin will lighten, ensuring that these marks are always clearly visible on bare skin.

Cultural Belief

After so long, the teiresi people have come to accept these are marks from the gods, a sign of good luck and divine favor. This has become so deeply ingrained in the cultural mentality and faith that any who do not bear these marks rarely achieve notable positions in political office. It is seen as bad luck to elect an individual without the gods’ favor marks to any position of leadership. After all, the gods are all knowing, the lack could be a warning that they will be lacking in other ways in the future.

Lost Truths

Against the belief of those marked, these brands are in fact the residual brands that the Azlaryn empire would place on its slaves. In the days of the empire, these marks would also bear the legal information of a slave’s owner and duties, so that others would know who to contact if something happened involving the master’s property. These marks could also be used to track down and punish the slave. Now, thousands of years later, the arcane magic that branded the enslaved still lingers in their very blood.
The Unmarked
Being unmarked is very rare, and may only affect a handful each generation. Contrary to belief, this occurs when outsider blood is introduced, or those carrying particularly high amounts of Azlaryn blood in their veins. The Azlaryn were not slaves and their magic branding were specially crafted to never leave a mark their own people.
Effect Duration
