Dhabral
The Forest of Cairns
Naturally an open field of tall grasses, cut by a road that gets more attention than others due to how many come to mourn their fallen. Spread out across these fields are tall cairns of stones, stacked one atop another by those who loved the fallen.
Ideally, the body of the deceased would be prepared and given a funeral pyre by the priests, then their ashes gathered to fertilize the fields the following year. The pyre gives closure to the living, but there is not always a body to burn when the war is against man-eating creatures such as demons. In these cases, where there is no body but it is believed the lost are truly gone, the family and friends will come to Dhabral and begin stacking stones, circling and ultimately covering mementos they bring.
It is hoped that the soul has departed before they make the journey, but in the possibility they had not, then this sign of respect and love can reassure the departed they are not going to be forgotten, and that their families still care but all parties must move on.
