Bright Temples
Purpose / Function
The Bright Temples were built for the specific purpose of protecting the wardstone, while still allowing it to gain energy from the sun's light. Due to the wardstone’s size and weight, and the caution of damaging it if moved, the temple had to be built around where it stood when discovered.
Design
The six walls are a full twenty feet tall, standing in a ring around the artifact, with a colored glass roof to allow in the sunlight. Torches are placed every ten feet in a circle around the wardstone, kept lit at all times by the temple acolytes.
The ceiling is designed to depict the most commonly accepted appearance of the gods Life, Death, and War.
The ceiling is designed to depict the most commonly accepted appearance of the gods Life, Death, and War.
- Life as a vibrant female light elf in a robe of many bright colors; on a golden field, with anticipation of new life.
- Death as a pale, sullen male human in simple clothes; half his body being extremely gaunt, so that his bones were visible. He is placed in a plane of stars to symbolize all the souls he has collected.
- War’s race is undefined, shown in full plate armor with an extravagant sword and shield, their red cloak taking up the background of their depiction like a bloodsoaked battleground.
Sensory & Appearance
The wardstone is located in front of the main entrance of the temple, with additional halls on either side to different wings of the temple. In spite of the temperature outside, and the torches all around, the air around the wardstone is relatively cool, and the crisp clear smell of frost and citrus that comes from the artifact are prominent.
Denizens
At any given time, there are always a dozen or so priests and acolytes going back and forth through the wardstone chamber, to the different wings of the temple.
Defenses
Paladins are stationed at the entrance to the temple, to see mortal problems away, but in the case of more extreme threats, like demons, the wardstone has its own defense. If a demon is within fifty feet of the artifact, the wardstone will flare with reserved energy, and divine magic will burn the intrusive monster until either it retreats, or burns to nothing.
