The elven curse - Vloresk

The elves call it curse, other may call it punishment for their crimes to the very earth that that created them.

Manifestation

The fog emitting a blue hue, lingers in between the trees, wavering through the branches. Neither breeze nor storm are able to blow it away. Only sudden spikes of energy within a small area may displace it, like a stone thrown into a lake. One such example being lightning strikes.

These waves sometimes create a highly dangerous phenomenon the elves call, Vlurox. It describes the descending of the mist over the edges of the many ravines down to their bottom, where it once again lingers, patiently awaiting it's prey.

For elves Vloresk is deadly. For it is not fog made of water but mana particles, this fog creates such dense magic energy, that it becomes an overdose and turns into a highly potent toxin, damaging all those with magic potential. Only those made of magic, with an extremely high tolerance or those completely devoid of magic potential are somewhat immune to it.
Vloresk overloads and thus destroys, breaking or melting anything capable of storing magic, such as cells, organs and souls.

Ever since it's first appearance the forest of Aluness has changed dramatically. The elves having to abandon their once flourishing towns and fleeing into the many ravines, they helped grow out of the earth themselves. The effect of the Vloresk poison cut down the once long lifetime to those of an average human. Dethroned as the rulers of the forest, stripped of their species pride, and being forced out of the forest, they slowly rebuild their civilisation in between the two layers of Vloresk. The first being the forest itself and the second being the bottom of the ravines, where it lingers after a Vlurox.

Localization

Vloresk only appears within the dense and vast forest of Aluness, the elves birthplace. It was created and set free after the great elven war, the forests scarring. Its release created a large upheaval in the woods ecosystem. Many plants and animals dying out or heavily mutating to adapt to the increased amount of mana. However while elves never fully recovered from it's effects, the nature gained back it's footing within just a few decades. This was made possible through natures close connection with the great spirit.
