Adug-Eir(Primal Elvish)
Spoken only by the elves farthest from the greater world, also called the Old Tongue by elves that speak modern elvish.
"If you meet one of those Lythari, make sure to grunt some when you speak elvish. Doesn't sound a damn thing alike, but if you're lucky, they may think you have some disease and let you pass. Otherwise, pray to Melora that her elves aren't hungry that day." - Kondro Mac Finnuc, dwarven guide of the Weedewood. The elves most will meet often speak the same language but with different accents or minor differences based on region or culture. This "modern" elvish is likely all most people know, but there is another language that elves have been known to speak, particularly by elves whose cultures have remained isolated from even other elves across the worlds of the Greater Sphere. Adug-Eir is an old language that can sound guttural compared to the modern elvish, but this elvish, also called "primal elvish" is a relic of a mythic history. Long ago, in the Age of Falling, when the first elves were born from Corellon's blood they spoke the same language as Corellon and all other creations at the time, Celestial. When the Age of Mortality began and the races developed languages and cultures, particularly when Corellon left the elves after the betrayal of Lolth, elves spoke two languages primarily, Sylvan and Adug-Eir a language made by elves that rejected both the flighty Corellon and the traitorous and brutal Lolth. While Adug-Eir would be spoke by most elves on the Material Plane prior to the Age of Dispersion, afterwards many elves thought it was divine punishment for turning away from the Seldarine. They then developed a language derived from Adug-Eir but more heavily built on Sylvan, thus modern elvish was made. Since then only the far flung elves that do not worship elvish gods or have an older culture speak Adug-Eir, these are the deep elves, Lythari, outer elves, and wild elves.
Adug-Eir has few written word, but has many pictographs that are often enough used to signal to those who know it.

The Language of Elders
The elvish language of elders is commonly mistaken for Adug-Eir, this is because it is a mix of both elvish languages, used in rituals and secret notes. It used the written alphabet of elvish but used to match the spoken language of Adug-Eir. As the name suggests, usually only the oldest elves use this language for any reason, and it's tradition is passed down from one elder to another.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
