Dalia
Territories
The August Territories are a group of nations southeast of Amik and to the West of the Muggamond Isles. Most of the countries in this region are covered in dense rainforest with several large rivers running from the interior August Hills toward the ocean to the South.
The region became known as the August Territories during the time of The Twilight Council when the entire peninsula was a unified province. It is one of the few areas of the world that still uses and is known by the name given to it during the occupation.
Dalia is the Northmost country in the August Territories and also the most powerful. The fast moving Ou river runs North to South through the Western half of the country where tall hills and mountains dominate the North and plains - which are very rare in the region - cover the South.
Military
Although service in the Dalia's military is technically voluntary, it is seen as a rite of passage among both men and women. Significant economic favoritism also comes with military service, providing further incentive for young people to volunteer. Those who choose to opt out of military service belong to a lower socioeconomic class known as the Cobarde - or cowardly - and are generally forced to live in slums or on farms with small amounts of barely fertile land. This effectively forces the population into service, making Dalia the dominant military power in the region.
Technological Level
The Dalians are not especially advanced technologically, but are not reluctant to integrate new and beneficial inventions into their everyday lives.
Religion
The Dalian people are generally very religious and traditional. The Dalians practice several traditions that are seen almost nowhere else in the world, and even very rarely in neighboring countries. The people of Dalia are extremely elitist and believe they are better than all the other countries in the Territories and have a hard time tolerating differing beliefs and cultures. The country as a whole is very militaristic.
Foreign Relations
The basic idea of Dalia's foreign policy is to coexist with those countries who are more powerful and to intimidate those who are less powerful. For example, Dalia gets along with Amik quite well, lowering tolls for Amikian goods passing through Dalian waters in exchange for cheaper goods from Amik and political alliances. However, the same cannot be said for Dalia's neighbors in the August Territories. Dalia holds several forts on its border with Tyrares as well as Hieracuse, an effective intimidation tactic that has for decades allowed Dalia to push around its smaller and weaker neighbors with little to no threat of an effective response.
Agriculture & Industry
Dalia has the strongest economy in the August Territories due largely to its geography. Its open plains make it the largest producer of crops in the region. Many of the agriculture products exported from Dalia are sent to the other countries in the Territories, where the lack of farmland makes it difficult to grow food.
Trade & Transport
Dalia's position at the mouth of the Gulf of Cerdos is a major contributor to its economic power. The Dalian government enforces a toll on all foreign goods shipped through its territorial waters, which essentially affects all trade in or out of the Gulf of Cerdos, allowing the country to benefit not only from much of the foreign trade involving the Territories but also many goods moving to or from Amik.
