Kangaya (Khan-guy-uh)

The Death Art of Runes

Kangaya is a school of Necromancy. It was the first wave of Lumini necromancy, and was succeeded by Vistaleia, then Qalrya. It was invented by the First Necromancer, Cenushem Limth.   Kangaya uses obscure Rune magics for thrall revivification, and users often stack the Rune of Thoth with other Kangayan runes. Famously, one such rune, the Rune of Words, has been routinely employed as well to project a necromancer's voice through a thrall. Combined with the Rune of Shapes, the Rune of Words can cause thralls to speak with various kinds of voices, or even cause thralls to speak semisentiently.

History

Invented by the first necromancer, Cenushem Limth, in 1,341 LE, Kangayan necromancy stayed dormant for a startling 287 years after its creation.   It was only in 1,627 LE that Limth began rounding up a Kangayan army in secret, sourced from countless burial catacombs beneath the Dinakuun Kakajlaak (Dinakuun Mountains). On 1,628 LE, Limth finally arose with his armies from underground into the city of Degak Cudib, then the capital of the Dinakuunaj's clan-driven sociopolitical culture. Horrifically, it was then and there that the Split-Helm Time abruptly began, and bloodily, indeed (1,628 - 2,279 LE).   From 2,289 LE onward, poets of the Dinakuunaj dwarvish nomads have prolifically mourned the fact that the Split-Helm Time lasted over twice the period which Cenushem Limth had spent in addled isolation, discovering, testing, and perfecting early Kangayan techniques.   The Split-Helm Time (1,628 - 2,279 LE) among the Dinakuunaj dwarves was one of the worst & longest-lasting necromancy-related incidents ever seen on Lumina. The Time had only ground to a halt once one of the lieutenants of His Stoneglow Idrosir Vustizevud I's army had finally discovered that smearing a thrall's Rune of Thoth would render Limth's forces inert (2,223 LE).   After Cenushem Limth responded to this vulnerability by placing the Rune of Thoth in random portions of a zombie's body, Dinakuunaj researchers spent the resulting 55 years developing water cannon technology. This technological advancement proved critical in bringing the Split-Helm Time to a close. The tale of Idrosira II's daughter Veshetholla, an 11-year-old at the time, delivering the killing blow to Cenushem Limth became a passion-stirring legend of Dwarvish hope for the Dinakuunaj during the emerging centuries of their newfound nomadism to follow Limth's death.   The resulting casualties and collateral damage of this desperate time period were so severe that the Dinakuunaj dwarves became permanent nomads (2,289 LE), upon declaration by His Stoneglow Idrosir's daughter who succeeded him, Her Stoneglow Idrosira Fumamesibbol Vustizevud II. The Dinakuunaj maintained the worldwide phenomenon of clan-elected Rocklords until 2,476 LE, long after her Stoneglow Idrosira II's son Idrosir Ortinulbezuk Vustizevud III enjoyed his tenure as Rocklord.

Execution

Kangaya requires the Rune of Thoth to function. If the Rune of Thoth on a zombie is smeared or marred sufficiently, the power current of Kangayan magic ends, disrupting the unlife of a necromantic thrall.
