Darkwork

Darkwork is a school of magic. It was discovered by the Dinakuunaj dwarvish inventress Khemrealyn Desalkolth in 3,604 LE.   While its name is often equated with forbidden and dangerous magics such as Necromancy and Blood Sorcery, Darkwork is a school of magic whose capacities can conjure boonful and baneful results.   The name is derived from Desalkolth's wish to improve visibility while mining mountains. Desalkolth, inspired by her people's nomadic needs for forging and foraging across Ucagstemsh and other continents, had learned that 'flipping' ordinary means of magic-casting resulted in magical phenomena ultimately recognized as Darkwork.   Darkwork causes the inversion of ordinary matter. Its scientific mechanics are ill-conceptualized at Lumina's current technology level.

History

  • It is said that 'flipping' ordinary means of casting magic results in Darkwork workings.
  • Despite the supposed simplicity of such a magical concept, Darkwork is hard to achieve without meaningful magical familiarity and energy reservoirs.

Execution

  • Darkwork turns light energy into dark energy, and vice versa. A common use includes illuminating pitch-black caves as if they were sun-illumined, for a relatively low expenditure of energy.
  • Beings can be conjured through Darkwork.
  • Matter, time, space and energy can be Alterated with Darkwork.
  • As a battle magic technique, explosions and implosions are frequently sought out, but not all experiments have succeeded.
  • Darkwork can create buildings, barriers, and other constructions which are maintained with Ectoplasm.
  • If harnessed properly, Darkwork can allow one to pass through restraints as if they didn't exist.
  • Time can be rewound, but it is extremely dangerous.
  • Portals between locations can be created, but this is also a hazardous working for the amateur.

Components and tools

"Bring your attention to the forces that make things be things. Focus on the space between the rocks, fellow knurlan (dwarves). What is the opposite of that space, and the forces which comprise it?"
