Vincenzo Giovanni

Il Cavalieri di Firenze

Biography:

Another Life, Another Time:

Born in Padua, in the Veneto region of Italy, in the year of 1327 AD, Vincenzo Cararesi was a man with a propensity for violence. He killed his first man at 12, and was knighted at 15, his skills as a scholar of war made sure to land him on a Free Company, one of the many mercenary companies roaming the Italian peninsula. The young condottiere found work under a company called Il Compagnia di Falco landing many successful campaigns, rising through the ranks and, eventually becoming commander of the entire company. Under his leadership, the Company of the Falcon prospered like no other, with success after success making sure that Vincenzo could not be stopped. He was already a military genius, with a strategic and tactical acumen that rivaled even the greatest warriors and kings of his generation.

Vincenzo circa 1347

After several successful campaigns and victories, Vincenzo entered the service of the Republic of Venice, it was the second highest point in his career, only losing to his wedding to Ludovica Giovanni, a rich noblewoman and trader. He could finally shed his Paduan name, in favor of his new Venetian one, a name that would instill respect where his skill sets couldn't. But it was not a marriage of convenience, they were madly in love, with Ludovica presenting Vincenzo to her family. But no king rules forever, and Vincenzo's time came in the Battle of San Mariano, in 1367 AD, when his company was defeated by the White Company, led by the English mercenary captain John Hawkwood. Lying dead on the ground, having lost an eye, Vincenzo awaited death, but was greeted by Ludovica. She Embraced him, out of fear of losing her beloved, having come to, and realizing what he had become, he feared for his soul, but relented when presented with the possibility of living eternally with his wife.

But her family was furious! Enraged that she Embraced without permission, Augustus was ready to grant them both Final Death, but relented when Vincenzo made his case. He would serve his new family, he would right any wrongs, deal with any troubles and fight all their enemies, for all eternity. The diablerizing Methuselah saw value in a man like Vincenzo, a sword to be wielded solely by him and the clan, their marshal and greatest warrior, he accepted.

For Glory, Love and Blood:

He spent the next centuries serving under Augustus and the Clan Giovanni, fighting their enemies, guarding their interests and protecting their family. These were happy times, with him often going away to fulfill a determined mission, only to return back to Ludovica's arms. He slowly began to feel happy again, just as he was when he commanded his Company, even beginning to gather an entourage in their memory.

Each of these vampires, all members of Giovanni bloodlines, made up his coterie the named Compagnia di Falco, in honor of his mercenary company from the days he was alive.

He first recruited Vittelozzo Puttanesca, a mad tempered Sicilian sailor and pirate that had as much strength as he had a temper. Then came Jamie Dunsirn, a Scottish banker with a inclination for the supernatural and had to be bailed out from his involvement with the Jacobites, something Vincenzo was all to eager to oblige. Next, during a voyage to Mexico during the 1821 War of Independence, he met the excentric Vazqués José Maria Pisanob, a revolutionary that still worshipped the old Aztec gods. And last, but certainly not least, when Vincenzo was in Hong Kong in 1923 for an assassination mission, he met the half-chinese, half-italian assassin Carina della Passaglia, who was after the same target. The pair completed their missions and an offer to join was swiftly followed and accepted, with some whispering that Carina accepted the offer out of a newfound attraction for the Italian mercenary, tho she kills anyone that dares say that out loud.

Age of Inquisition:

After the creation of the Second Inquisition, alongside the Destruction of the Vienna Chantry and Scouring of London, the usually neutral Giovanni would get a nasty wake-up call. The Giovanni clan had always prided itself independent, uninterested in the squabbles of Camarilla; Sabbat; Ashirra or any other sects for that matter, tending to their own buissiness. However the disspearance of Augustus Giovanni, the patriach of the clan, and the dispersal of the bulk of the clan's wraiths, made them weak.

It began with the attacks on the Mafia by the Police, surely guided by SI intel, distabilizing the muscle of the clan, then came the Sabbat. The Sword of Caine attempted a takeover of Florence, planning to use it as a staging ground for a two-pronged invasion of Venice, but Vincenzo had made a promise all those centuries ago, a promise he intended to keep. He began by singlehandedly, alongside his coterie, wrecking the Sabbat's plan, killing Archbishop Salvatore an reclaming Florence for Clan Giovanni, in an ironic twist of history for the mercenary captain. Then he consolidated control over the Italian Peninsula and the Mafia, a second version of the Commision from Prohibition America.

With his power established, Vincenzo came back to Venice, both by order of the Anziani Council and because he missed his wife that much. But what happened there would forever change the man. During a meeting with his "In-Laws", who were discussing the Clan's future, an SI raid, led by ESOG Team X, interrupted the proceedings, this bold attack was repelled but at great cost to the Giovanni. Not only several of the Anziani suffered Final Death, but Ludovica was badly wounded, a Thermite grenade had burned her angel-like face, with the pain bringing her to Torpor, and a distraught Vincenzo to rage.

The condottieri went on a rampage, killing priests and soldiers alike, in a gruesome streak of murders that only stopped when Cappuchin, the leader of the Anziani council, personally ventured to stop him. What was said between them was never disclosed, but after that Vincenzo became Cappuchin's right-hand man. They orchestrated the Family Reunion, bringing together all necromantic bloodlines, buried the hatched with the Cappadocians and acquired new members to bolster their numbers.
