Hjortis

The Ember Stag

Domains and Aspects

  • Fire
  • Endurance and Survival
  • Resilience and Strength through Adversity
  • The Harsh North

  • Hjortis is the embodiment of perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds. His dominion is the frozen North, where icy winds howl and the environment itself becomes a trial. Through his fire, he grants the warmth needed to endure but only to those who prove themselves worthy.

    Symbol and Depiction

Symbol: Burning antlers or a stag crowned with flames.
Depiction: Hjortis is portrayed as a colossal stag wandering the frozen tundras, his antlers wreathed in roaring flame. Against the endless white of the northern snow, his fiery presence shines like a beacon of hope — and a reminder of the cost of survival.

    Beliefs and Values

Followers of Hjortis believe that survival is something that must be earned through strength, resilience, and ingenuity. In his domain, comfort and life are prizes won only by the most determined. To thrive without struggle would be to defy the lessons of Hjortis.   “Only those who endure the cold earn the fire.”

    Temples and Worship

There are no grand temples to Hjortis. Instead, small shrines are scattered across the North perched on mountain peaks, hidden within caves, or standing solitary in the open tundra.   Pilgrimages to honor Hjortis involve venturing as far north as one's spirit will allow, enduring the elements without aid. Upon reaching a place of significance, the pilgrim leaves behind a wooden carving of themselves as proof of their journey.

    Legends and Tales

It is said that Hjortis still wanders the North in his mighty form. Travelers on the verge of death from the cold sometimes glimpse a burning figure through the blizzard. When they awaken, they find themselves sheltered in caves, a roaring fire by their side. It is believed that Hjortis himself spares those destined for greater deeds, granting them a second chance.

    Mysteries

Among the Aezezias, Hjortis’ domain stands apart. Where most Aezezias gods offer fertile, nurturing lands to their followers, Hjortis offers only hardship. Some scholars wonder if there is a deeper divine purpose behind these brutal trials — a forging of souls into something stronger than comfort could ever achieve.
