Tuehma

Tuehma are a species of bovine grazer in the Koyau Plains in central Ēwie, where the rains run dry and wind picks up over open fields. They are herded and depended on by the Aqāye people for food and transportation, an aspect which seeped into their culture and changed their traditions from those known to their ancestors.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Tuehma were a bovine species adapted to the steady grasslands and meadows of inner Ēwie. The average female stood around a hand's width shorter than a male with an average of 1.3 to 1.4 meters. Tuehma herded by the plains' tribes tended to be far larger than their wild brethren as a result of generations of intentional breeding focused on size, speed and endurance—all traits the Aqāye looked for when choosing their mounts.

All tuehma grew two pairs of horns during the last years of their childhood—usually between four and five years of age—with sex having little impact on their size or shape. Both pairs grew from the forehead, with one nearly touching the ears and another, smaller pair on eye level or just a little above. They wre straight and quite thin, but durable and sharp weapons against opponents when needed

Behaviour

Tuehma were herd animals. Females stayed with their parents as a part of the group, while the males left on their own after reaching adulthood. Sometimes these lonely males grouped up for safety and companionship before they could find a herd of their own.

The females would choose their partner, forming a companionship which would last for life. Should one perish soon after the bond was formed, it was possible for the surviving partner to find a new mate, but this was not without exceptions even for young individuals.

The tuehma slept standing in a tightly-knit group during the night. The individuals on the edges acted as sentinels, watching over the group as they rested. They would change these guards every night, with every adult taking their turn.
