Years after Unno-Ǐara's arrival to the lands of Udzar, she formed the first of her wolf packs, known to the Nolǐur as Hounds of Unno-Ǐara. Rather than using born wolves, she turned men into beasts through a ritual known only to herself. She would bind them to their new forms and then bind their wills to her own.

They became a pack made of hunters with the will and intellect of man, bound in a shape the Hag Queen considered superior to that of humans.

History

The first of Unno-Ǐara's hounds were made of individuals she found undesirable. Most of these were men, hunters, who did not agree to the way she wished to run things and thus threatened her rule. Her loyalists captured these people and brought them to her. There, under pale moonlight, she made them into wolves—her personal hounds of hunt and warfare—and bound them to her by burning her mark into their flesh.

The problem with her original method became evident when others captured these wolves and returned them to their original shapes and cut the mark so that the Hag Queen no longer had power over them. Clearly, she had to find another way to keep her new pets as they were—perfect in loyalty and ever-bound in their new forms.

And so she did. How Unno-Ǐara came to learn her secrets no one knows, for the Mother of Miznar is nothing if closed to her people. Whatever ways she found evidently worked, however. Her second pack, formed equally of skilled hunters both traitors and loyalists, could not be turned back into humans. Neither could her influence over the beasts be lessened, for her mark was no longer merely burned into their flesh but reached deeper into their souls.
