Divine Guides
The high priests of Amaunator, powerful wizards who advice the Caliph of the Sh'areen Calipahte. They are also the ones who summon a new Caliph after one has died.
At any given time there are seven Divine Guides. If one dies, is exiled (extremely rare), or resigns (even rarer the remaining guides vote on a replacement. At least 5 out of the remaining 6 must agree. As a means to make sure one is actually elected, the Guides are locked in a room while debating and are only allowed very basic foods and other necessities they need. If the negotiations take longer than a month, they are no longer provided with any food.
