Illibrian Clones

The long voyages of the Perseus Arm expeditions were fraught with concerns over crew moral. Each ship within the fleet was comprised of an over ninety percent male population. Regardless of the having multiple crews to take active shifts between cyro-sleep, the thought of crew distress at not having the ability and availability of mixed sex relationships caused command to assign sexual synthetic androids and contract long term ship board prostitutes serving in steward positions, to the ships to alleviate stress and tensions. Yet this would prove to be a short term solution and generally unsatisfactory for the men of the crews.

Several ship captains pooled together favors owed and arranged to have cloning technologies and genetic samples of selected females taken onboard their ships. Fashion models, actresses, singers, musicians, other entertainers and select atheletes were chosen and made generous offers through various middle men and contractors for DNA samples and often times for harvested eggs.

The few ships that had chosen to bring clonal technology and genetic samples were the ones that set out from main group to find the world they named Illibria and found their Star Republic. Initially it was decided to have three waves of clones.

The first wave was decanted using the shortest time possible. A short eighteen weeks to have a full adult of whichever model, actress, entertainer or athelete the elder crew members decided upon to be their wives. However, this first group had to be educated from scratch as if a new born child. It is felt that many were abused and mistreated as they may not have learned quickly enough for their husbands. This group would only live roughly thirty years, for the elder spacers it was enough.

The second wave was grown at a slower rate, taking eighteen months. However, after six months at six years of age they could be taken out and educated over the remaining year it would take for them to reach age eighteen. During this time they could bond with the crew that would become their husbands. Now nearly two-hundred years later this has been looked upon by critics as a form of grooming. These clones would live closer to a normal lifespan with minor ailments.

The third wave was gestated over a full eighteen years so that they would have a full life without ailments or conditions. They and the following groups now approaching the final tenth group are given the honorific of Grandmother and are allowed to live in luxury and ease. The grandmothers are free to pursue educational opportunities and careers as they desire.
