Marshes of Kesskolin
In the marshes and plains of what today is central Guldflosen near the Geltin River once stood the Ogres Great Woven City of Kesskolin. Long before it was lost to the Cataclysm Kesskolin stood as one of the mightiest centers of authority. During the rule of Prefect Ardgrian the red, a time of relative peace, Kesskolin was growing rapidly with the support of enchanted civil works that led to the creation of the humani caste of low ogres.
The cost of maintaining these innovative enchantments was problematic if the prefecture was to continue growing, and to solve this Ardgrian commissioned a conclave to develop a means of bringing down this burden. The solution was to shift the design of these great civil works enchantments to be maintained by groups of weak casters performing a ritual, and to fill this role by creating a new caste of small bodied but magically gifted low ogres that could be used in lieu of larger high caste master weavers. Kesskolin was home to many great philosophers of transmutation, and large numbers subjects were treated to brutal testing by the conclave to find the right combination.
By chance or brilliance a progenitor to the human race was found in Srath, a young woman among a reed gathering crew, who demonstrated one of the critical skills needed to fulfil their designed role as ritual casters. With her harmonizing flute music Srath manifested a synchronization of action among the workers. Her lineage was multiplied, and with the population of humani the influence of Kesskolin grew. Within a few centuries every major prefecture across Lorgaire had a burgeoning population of the humani caste to support petty ritual casting. The relatively small humans were cheap to sustain, and their knack for synchronization also made them capable of gathering resources that had generally eluded the older castes such as fish and small grains, utilizing the portion of their population who were poor spellcasters.
