Cassian Darrow
Lieutenant Cassian Darrow (a.k.a. Cass)
Cassian serves as Head of Security aboard the Torch, and holds the rank of Lieutenant within the Expeditionary Corps, having signed up with the organisation eight years ago.
His passion and enthusiasm for service has long left him, and this cynical, worn-down Lieutenant longs for the day he can return to the Core Worlds. In the meantime, he continues to apathetically hold his post on the Torch, trying to (often in vain) guide the vessel safely along her voyage.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
He stands somewhere in the region of 6'1 or '2, only slightly above the average for his gender. His muscular frame has begun to atrophy from years of desk-work, and you get the impression that his golden years may be behind him. While not overweight, you would perhaps attribute his overall shape to that of the 'dadbod' - softly round.
The grace of youth has begun to leave Cassian - he looks, most of the time, something of a stressed and tired man in equal measure. His stubble is not particularly neat, and rogue strands of hair fall across his face. You would place him in his late 20s or early 30s.
His eyes of dark-blue often carry deep bags underneath them, and rarely convey any feeling other than exhaustion, the spark of adventure and excitement having long left this explorer.

Morality & Philosophy
Cassian takes what is best described as the "path of least resistance" in all things as he drags himself through life. Aboard the Torch, this means offering little opposition to the word of his superiors - he's served for years, and has learned the futility of doing so - and generally keeping to himself. That's not to say he respects his superiors or colleagues, something he often does not, but rather wants only to keep off their radar.
When this philosophy is applied to his work, he is a very hands-off leader, delegating most duties to the Brig Chief. To those who find themselves on the wrong side of the law, for most minor crimes, they will be thankful to have Lieutenant Darrow around who will, never quite finding the energy to complete the necessary administrative work after an arrest, often let them off with a slap on the wrist.
As with all things, however, there are exceptions to this. On the rare occassion Cass feels strongly about something, he will stubbornly hold his ground and not shy away from voicing direct opposition.

Contacts & Relations
Aboard the Torch, he's come to know a great deal of his colleagues, though only very few he would class as friends. Even smaller still of these number remain today, adding to his desire to return to a rooted society. Cassian is tired of making, and losing, friendships.

He will never much open up about his family, beyond the fact he has a sister called Aoife, and that he keeps regular correspondence with her.
