Black Wind
A large creature sighted in the Primal Forest. It is a creature known for its swift and deadly hunting prowess during the night.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Black Wind is believed to share the same body type as the Azure Fog, a serpentine body type. Unlike the Azure Fog, the Black Wind has scales instead of feathers, which allows it to survive the temperate Primal Forest. It also possesses a pair of claws that it uses to mark its territory or to kill its prey.
According to sightings, the Black Wind is often described as a "long streak of black" and has "a serpentine-like face". Confirming that the Black Wind shares the same body-type as the Azure Fog. From the claims, it can also be inferred that the Black Wind has black scales.
The Black Wind is also said to have a pair of claws, as there are claw marks on trees. While it is easy to assume that it could have been made by one of the Ursine species of the Primal Forest, the size of the marks debunks the notion, thus, it can only be traced back to the Black Wind. But further expeditions and study are needed to confirm it.
In sightings where it has attacked the expedition teams, it is noted to have a glint of red from a spot where its eyes are supposed to be. Which implies that the Black Wind has red eyes, possibly for intimidation.
Ecology and Habitats
The Black Wind exclusively resides in the temperate and dense Primal Forest. The forest is dense with trees that during the night, moonlight is sparse and the only source of light are the Sopor Flowers. As the Black Wind is believed to have black scales, the dim forest is perfect for hiding itself to ambush prey in its hunts and to avoid attacks from other species that reside within the biome.
Unlike the Azure Fog, the Black Wind only stays in the Primal Forest, as it is abundant in food source.Dietary Needs and Habits
Its diet consists of fauna that resides in the Primal Forest, primarily the Moss Ursines and Tusked Ramhorns. Due to it preying on Moss Ursines, the Black Wind became the top of the food chain, and is now an apex predator of the Primal Forest.
Considering the Black Wind's hunting routine occurring at night, the Black Wind is possibly nocturnal and only hunts during the night. It can be concluded that it hunts during the night to play into its strength of being able to blend in the dark. This implies that the Black Wind is an ambush predator, lying in wait in the dark before striking its prey. This also explains why the Black Wind's sightings often take place during the dark hours. Though some sightings suggest that it occasionally hunts during the day. Reasons for this are unknown and the claims are yet to be verified.
Behaviour
Based on the sightings and accounts of their encounter, the Black Wind is aggressive and territorial. It attacks any intruders in its territory without hesitation. However, it does not attack blindly and wildly, its attacks were cunning and sneaky. It hides in very dim areas of the forest when it attacks, thus making it hard for the victims to discern where it is attacking from.
The Black Wind, much like the Azure Fog, it is a solitary species, preferring to hide away from most of the population and only coming out to hunt.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The Black Wind leaves behind shed scales, the scales are particularly sharp and have serrated edges. Thus, careful handling is recommended. From the quality of the scales, it can be used to forge weaponry. As it is currently used for research on these species, these are merely speculations for what the scales can be utilized for.
MYTHOLOGY AND POPULAR CULTURE
The Black Wind, much like the Azure Fog, also had stories of its own. However, it is widespread and not confined within the local spaces of communities near the Primal Forest. One of the popular stories that is told is titled "The Dark Wind", which tells an ominous tale about the Black Wind, each telling its attacks in the perspective of its prey. Another one of its popular stories is titled "The Lonely Dark Beast" which paints the Black Wind in a different light, interpreting it as a lonely beast who wanted friends, but was betrayed and became cold and aggressive towards anything that approaches it.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
It exclusively resides in the Primal Forest and cannot be seen anywhere in Lofalen.
Average Intelligence
The Black Wind may have some form of intelligence, as it takes advantage of its coloration of the scales to blend in the dark and ambush its predators.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The sensory capabilities of the Black Wind are largely unknown, but it can be assumed that it has sharper sense of smell, sight, and hearing. The claim is yet to be confirmed through additional expeditions and observations of the Black Wind's habits.
