Vurdish Wedding Dance
Dance is considered a key component of Vurdish culture, and wedding ceremonies include an especially elaborate dance featuring the Bride and Groom. It is the most important part of the ceremony, more so even than the vows. An engaged couple will carefully plan everything including the choreography, costumes, accompaniment, additional dancers, and stage set up months or even years before the wedding.
History
The first wedding dance is said to have been a gift from a Vurdish Mage to his bride. He wanted to illustrate his love for her through his magic, a key component of which was dance. He included his new wife in the dance, using his magic to highlight her beauty and nuturing nature to his familly, who disapproved of him marrying a nomag.
The custom was adopted by all Vurdish Mages, and eventually trickled down to marriages in which neither party was magical. Now it has become the primary event of the wedding ceremony, overshadowing the vows and reception almost completely.
Execution
The groom's job is to showcase his Bride's beauty and personailty through the dance. However the choreography is often chosen to illustrate HIS intelligence, career, or achievements. How complicated the dance is speaks to how well the couple knows each other, as more difficult choreography is often planned months in advance.
A mistake during the wedding dance is considered a bad omen for the relationship. More obvious errors have often resulted in immediate annullments.
Components and tools
It is considered a mark of affluence if the groom's family is able to provide additional dancers as a backdrop to the newlyweds. The greater the cast, the wealthier the family. Talented dancers are often booked years in advance and may rehearse with the couple for a full year before the wedding.
Participants
The Groom is considered the lead for the marriage dance, and his skill is considered a point of familial pride. The primary focus of the dance however is the Bride. He showcases his new wife, presenting her to his family for their approval.
