Cor1-02 The Reckoning Part 2

General Summary

The adventurers—Ember (Brian), Melf (Andrew), and Bitty (Oli)—continued their journey into the Cairn Hills, locating the mine where Auldon had directed them. Following the quartz boulder landmark, they discovered the abandoned mine and the dilapidated barn with the clues they sought. Ember’s keen eyes identified the mine’s entrance, while Bitty’s strength proved invaluable in lifting the granite slab that concealed a trapdoor.   Inside, the party ventured through tunnels, eventually arriving in the Vault. Here, they encountered long-dead, skeletal honor guards. Ember led the way and triggered the skeletons’ attack, leading to an intense battle. After felling the skeleton captain, the group claimed a masterwork longsword as a reward.   Continuing their search, they investigated sarcophagi and discovered an aged diary belonging to “Uncle Stoat,” detailing his failed attempts to access the treasure within. Through trial and error, the team figured out the correct pattern to open a hidden slide, sending them down into the Treasure Chambers.   In the chamber, they were assaulted by an eerie moaning sound so intense that both Ember and Melf were rendered unconscious. Bitty’s resilience allowed her to shake them awake, and together they ventured into the treasure room. They found a platinum cartouche adorned with diamonds and sapphires—a dazzling but dangerous prize. When Bitty grasped it, the necklace vanished and cursed her, binding it to her neck.   Returning to Greyhawk, the party presented the necklace to Auldon. Though he was impressed by the valuable artifact, the curse became evident when the necklace reappeared on Bitty. Realizing the problem, Auldon called upon a priest to remove the curse at great personal cost. As gratitude for their bravery, he rewarded the group with 20 gold orbs and offered his future support.   In closing, Auldon expressed his hope to call upon the party’s help again, to which they agreed, solidifying a bond that promises further adventures ahead.
