Session 43: Press 3 For More Giants. Report
General Summary
Roisin Marshfield ordered Cigfran to attack, and he struck with a crossbow bolt. Jeeves reacted to fire as well, striking powerfully. Cigfran then took careful aim to fire again and struck the creature in a vital spot. The creature cried out in anger just as Boris fired a clockwork bolt which lodged in the creature's shoulder. The creature then strode forward and gave Boris the Evil Eye, dealing grievous mental anguish and shattering his concentration. Roy fired a scorching ray, striking twice for mild fire damage. Jeeves stepped out and fired twice at the giant, which died from its wounds, but spoke a death curse upon Jeeves , who felt weakened and diminished, then tried to move away but tripped and fell on Roisin Marshfield, only just managing to stand and move aside. The other giant moved up and imposed the Curse of the Evil Eye on Jeeves , further damaging him but also deforming and weakening his body, leaving him partly crippled and twisted. Roisin Marshfield stood and ordered Boris to attack, so Boris fired a clockwork bolt at the other giant, striking it in the leg. Jeeves reacted by firing a bow, striking the creature but also scraping up his own arm. Cigfran took careful aim then attacked, striking critically in one eye. Boris again fired a clockwork bolt, striking the giant in its other leg, then moved away a bit. Roy came out from behind a tree and fired two eldritch blasts, pummeling the besieged giant, then slipped behind a tree again. Jeeves tried to toll the dead, but discovered that his curse reflected the magic back on him, as some of his twisted flesh rotted away, then moved behind a tree and a branch fell on him. The giant stepped up to Cigfran , slammed him with a club, then gave him the evil eye, causing tremendous mental anguish. Roisin Marshfield ordered Boris to attack again, so Boris fired another Clockwork Bolt, and struck. Roisin Marshfield looked at Jeeves , seated on the ground, head in his hands, with a branch on his back, looking very sad. Roisin Marshfield rallied Jeeves and Cigfran , healing Cigfran 's wounds and very slightly helping Jeeves . Cigfran tried to disengage, but discovered that the Evil Eye gave it additional ability to strike. Cigfran , grievously wounded, ran away, leaving Roisin Marshfield the closest to the giant. Boris then attacked with another clockwork bolt which struck it in the chest, nearly killing it. Roy stepped out and struck with an eldritch blast, which killed the creature. The creature pronounced a death curse with its dying breath, which dramatically impacted Roy , leaving him unable to think clearly and terribly weakened. Boris tried to remove the curse from Jeeves , but failed. Cigfran went to inspect the bodies, but found nothing but patches of black, dead, ground where nothing would ever grow again. Jeeves discovered he could not benefit fully from magical healing, but non-magical healing was fully effective. He then used prestidigitation to clean of puss from a few boils, and generated a surge of wild magic due to the curse which killed Roisin Marshfield and Roy outright but gave Boris a new ability to cast and sustain spells in combat. Boris took an incredibly rare Elven flower of Life from Jeeves and restored Roisin Marshfield; Cigfran was able to call upon The Source to revive Roy . Roisin Marshfield mused that one way to remove Jeeves ' Curse would be to kill him, so Roy responded by firing eldritch blasts at Jeeves , striking once. Roisin Marshfield cried out for everyone to stop, as Boris pulled the branch off him. Jeeves consumed a Golian Heart Moss, but it did not seem to take effect. Boris then applied another Golian Heart Moss carefully to the sores and deformations, which seemed to work, restoring his twisted form and clearing some of the worst effects of the double curse. Jeeves screamed in agony for a time as his form returned to normal, slowly and painfully. Boris then used the last of his magic to heal Roy somewhat. Cigfran also used the last of his magic to heal Roy . Jeeves offered to bandage both Roy and Roisin Marshfield, but both declined. The group then took an hour to catch their breath and tend to their wounds while Boris kept watch. Near the end of that time Roisin Marshfield took ten minutes to inspire the party with a rousing speech about being careful with magic when curses are involved. Jeeves finally stood and stepped away from the tree, but caught a root that caused the entire tree to fall over behind him, killing the tree. The party teased a bit, but Jeeves sat down and appeared extremely depressed. A long discussion followed of the group considering if Jeeves should be allowed to continue with them, including Roy advocating the idea of simply killing Jeeves to end the curse. The party finally moved on, but after a while the spellcasters were suddenly brought to their knees by incredible pain and splitting headaches. The magical construct, Bishop, suddenly collapsed into a simple non-magical suit. Roisin Marshfield also felt her charm and personality drain away. After the group gathered themselves, weaker and less capable, they managed to move on after realizing this might be an area where The Weave is completely inaccessible and magic is unavailable. Jeeves , standing up, was suddenly clothed in black linen and a top hat, and speaking in an 1880's London British accent. A short time later the party heard thunderous steps ahead of them. Coming upon a ruined keep at a stream crossing, the group tried to move quietly, but failed miserably and attracted the attention of two Cyclops on the other side of the stream. Roisin Marshfield ordered Cigfran to attack, and he fired a crossbow bolt at one of the Cyclops. Jeeves in reaction fired an arrow, striking the creature in the chest. Cigfran stepped behind a ruined wall to hide, then fired again, striking the Cyclops in the upper thigh. Jeeves accidentally shot Cigfran , then moved behind a wall so he couldn't shoot his friends again. Roy hid, Boris shot at the Cyclops but missed, then Roisin Marshfield ordered Boris to attack, but Boris accidentally broke his crossbow string, despite his halfling luck. Cigfran hid, then leaned out and shot the Cyclops, and would have struck in the neck but Jeeves sneezed causing the Cyclops to move slightly and take the bolt in the shoulder instead. Jeeves then moved to a gap in the wall to fire two arrows, striking both times. Roy hid behind the wall again. Roisin Marshfield ordered Cigfran to attack, which missed, and Boris reacted by shooting his crossbow, striking the creature. Cigfran fired again, and again Jeeves prevented the strike from blasting through the creature's eye, but the bolt still hit strongly. Jeeves saw the other one leaning over the wall above him, tried to cast a spell, and realized there was no magic; then backed up. Roy used divine boon to summon the legendary Cerberus, which struck with its powerful jaws, killing the Cyclops and tearing the flesh from its bones as it began to eat. The other Cyclops bashed Jeeves , also knocking a wall over on him, nearly killing him. Roisin Marshfield ordered Boris to attack, but Boris missed, and Jeeves tried to attack, but stabbed his own arm anyway. Cigfran moved to a position where he could see, but missed with his attack. Jeeves then tried to get up and move back, and bandaged his wounds as best he could. Roy ordered Cerberus to attack the other Cyclops, and it rushed over. The Cyclops turned to attack the demonic dog, and struck once. Boris attacked with a warhammer, and struck the giant with a light tap. Roisin Marshfield ordered Boris to attack, but he missed. Cigfran reacted by attacking, piercing the Cyclops fiercly. Cigfran took careful aim and fired again, striking with another damaging bolt. Out of nowhere, a chunk of tower fell, almost hitting Cigfran , but that worthy dodged. Jeeves healed his wounds, considered retrieving his bow but could not for fear, then carelessly bumped a crumbling stone wall as he moved away, ending up buried under a pile of rubble. Roy again hid and commanded Cerberus to attack. The demonic hound struck three times, savaging the Cyclops. The Cyclops was very confused as the demonic dog disappeared in a burst of flame, then threw a boulder at Boris, but missed. Boris rushed forward to attack, but missed. Roisin Marshfield ordered Cigfran to attack, and he struck the Cyclops. Cigfran then took careful aim and fired again, but a small bird flew in the path of the bolt and was torn apart, causing the attack to fail. Jeeves chose to play dead in the rubble and try not to be noticed. Roy hid again. The Cyclops football-kicked Boris into a wall that collapsed on him, then shouldered another wall on top of Jeeves , causing the savant to be buried, unconscious, and bleeding out. Boris fired a crossbow, then moved aside. Roisin Marshfield rallied both Boris and Cigfran , strengthening their resolve. Cigfran fired again, but the wall between him and the Cyclops deflected the shot. The Cyclops again kicked Boris, then clubbed Cigfran . Boris fired another crossbow bolt, and this time struck the Cyclops in the throat, causing it to slump against the ruined wall behind it as it gurgled and died. Roisin Marshfield considered her options and chose to wait. Cigfran tried to help Jeeves , but was unable to do so. Boris rushed up and bandaged the sucking chest wound well enough to stabilize his friend. An hour later, after everyone moved to the tower on the other side of the stream, Jeeves awoke and was able to bandage a bit more. After a mostly quiet night, the party awoke feeling refreshed, and with headaches gone. Roy went to the stream to wash, and the whole stream turned to glass. Several centuries in the future this place would be resettled and become known as Glasswater Creek. Cigfran fired his magic crossbow, and suddenly his organs ripped themselves from his body over the course of a full minute of screaming in agony until his heart ripped free and he fell over dead in horrible pain and agony, leaving a horribly mutilated corpse which Jeeves tried to repair, but could not properly repair the damage. As they examined the body, they found 574 gold pieces in Cigfran 's boots, and 10 minutes later Cigfran sat up unharmed and with a magic field protecting him from harm. Roy examined the area, and the bodies, and found a few items of note. A once fine tapestry that had been used as a toilet rag, four mostly intact wagon wheels, a backpack with 23 copper, 28 silver, 85 electrum, and 27 gold. They also found a cage with a naked halfling in it. No sound could be heard, but they mimed begging for assistance to be set free. Roy called Cigfran over and Cigfran immediately removed the peg holding the cage closed. The Halfling, stepped out fully clothed, stood tall, and said "Oh, thank goodness. I've been in that cage for almost a year, I couldn't speak, had no clothes on, they made me....do things..." Cigfran asked why he was in the cage, "They captured me", Roy asked who and the halfling answered "The Cyclops'". Cigfran reassured the man that the bodies were on the other side of the "glass", and the Halfing looked, then said "OK, that's different". Roy asked how many captured him and he said one, which brought him here, and he noted that he had to watch them mate, nearly vomiting at the memory. He asked for food and the party gave him some trail rations to eat. The halfling asked how he might repay them, and Jeeves asked if he could remove a curse. The Halfling gestured at Jeeves as Roy heard the sound of breaking glass, looking in his backpack Roy discovered his wine bottles had shattered. "Why yes, it appears you are cursed. Let's see if we can help with that." The halfling cast a spell, Jeeves ' clothing was suddenly soaked in tree sap, but he also felt that the universe no longer hated him. Jeeves sat on a nearby wall section, and was struck by lightning, as everyone spend the next 20 seconds applauding. The halfling pulled a scroll from his robe and gave it to Roy , thanked everyone, then teleported away after drawing on the ground for a minute. Roy tried to catch the circle sigils, and thanks to his temporal magic managed to catch enough to reconstruct the correct sigils, he believed. As Roy examined the scroll, the scroll disintegrated in his hands, and he found that the spells "Maverson's Minor Metal Miracle" and "Maverson's Metal Miracle" had been copied into his book.
