Summer Camp 2025 Pledge

Getting back on track.

"Moving and working lots has affected my motivation and I really hope that Summer Camp can get me back on track!"

Nourishment

Linebound is not a perfect world but it also is not one that is incredibly punishing. It is a setting in which struggle and perseverance are not fruitless and those who press on are often rewarded. People work for their food - often because they grow, gather, hunt, or create it themselves - but the skies are not always so giving. One last frost or an overly hot summer can cause shortages and those who are not prepared will suffer.   Given that the setting is islands in an endless sky, there aren't exactly tons of deposits of coal or oil that are used to produce energy - heat mostly - so people have to rely on natural resources like wood - and charcoal made from it - and animal products in order to nourish their stoves and kilns.   As for the soul, art of all kinds is prevalent in the setting, though perhaps I could do a better job of making it known. Linebound is lacking much in the realm of spirituality with only small pieces here and there scattered across the articles I have written.

Nourishing Motivation

I have struggled with motivation - or perhaps energy levels - over the last couple of months; however, I have a new goal for Linebound. As I continue slowly building my way towards a specific story I want to tell - the search for the Harani - I am building a ship and a crew. The people will need to eat and be entertained while the ship will need to be maintained. Hopefully through these forty prompts I will be able to expand on the crew, their origins, and their journey.

Linebound in Review

Upon review, I have a lot of old articles that haven't been improved to the level I now expect from my writing for Linebound. Perhaps my review of these articles will bring me back there when prompts are revealed.   The biggest barrier to using these articles, and working on my goal, is that they will be mostly unrelated to the new journey of the Ivende. Still, maybe a couple unrelated articles just for fun will work their way in.

Roots

Since the crew of the Ivende are drawn from across all of Breharan - and perhaps beyond - they represent people with roots in different cultures, histories, and identities. These prompts will be a great way for me to make quick returns to many cultures which have not received their due.   I have only established three members of the crew so far - and only the origins of two of them - so I may be able to use the prompts to develop a history and pull a crew member from that idea.

Home Page and Primer

It has been a while since I reviewed these items and unfortunately will have to be a bit longer. This is a case where I must choose my battles and this is not one of them. I want to complete this article, a custom Magic set to release July 1st, and a character article for pride month soon.   There are so many great looking worlds with great primers and one day Linebound will be one of them. Some day hopefully closer than it is further. I am allowed to dream, haha.

Returning to Roots

The oldest setting I can remember making is 13th Hour which was originally set during the American Civil War - which I know very little about. It did not have a lot of depth or any particular theme or atmosphere in mind. It was just a setting which me - and my friends - threw whatever we wanted into. Funnily enough, in a mash-up one shot this year, a character that hasn't been played since those days almost fifteen years ago showed up and - through a player's actions - made it seem like the entire plot was all according to his plan.

Metamorphosis

Change is something I have wanted to do more of or do better since reading some articles by other authors that inspired me with how their world lived and evolved over time.   What will happen when the Ivende finds the Harani? What if the crew returns empty-handed? What if they don't return at all? How will the people of Breharan respond? How will it impact the Time of Exploration?

Shaking it Up

Someone at work has been playing some loud country music on their speaker. I still can't say I love it - or even like it most of the time - but I have listened to it. In things willingly consumed, a friend and I have started watching a gag comedy romance anime from the 1980s and we love it. The hand-drawn art, the music, the voice of the dog, love it all.

Other Worlds

Whenever I need to find inspiration my first stop is usually Solaris. I poked around there a bit during this prep period and as always found some really cool things. I also checked out the world of Kena'an from last year's best newcomer!

Future

The people of Linebound may not imagine a future of flying cars - or cars at all - and hoverboards but they should still imagine a future. This is what the creators of the first skyship did almost a century ago, they imagined something but also how it would change the skies forever. This is all still within living memory but the newness may finally be starting to wear off. What do the people who grew up in a sky full of ships - or people whose parents did - think the future will look like?

Planning Ahead

Sundays are going to have to be my main writing day because I have the most free time - though writing will have to compete with bike rides - and the rest will get done in the afternoons and evenings. I still have dedicated writing time on Tuesday nights but that won't be enough to get to diamond and beyond.

Community

As with always, I have Tabletale and my writing club to talk to and help keep me on track.   I would normally say I am good at getting things done only by pushing myself, my work has left me tired and I have been losing the battle more often than winning so I may turn to my peers more than usual to stay on track.

Stub Article

This article is just a stub for now and will be expanded upon later.

Old Article

This article was written in the past and does not meet my current standards for any number of article quality, layout, or content.

In-Progress Article

This article is being worked on, perhaps not at this very moment, but it is being worked on.

Goals for 2025

I did not continue my interactive adventure but I did write another short story! Still have a chance to complete the other two goals though.
Continue the interactive adventure I started in 2024 for Adventure April.
Participate in Summer Camp.
Participate in WorldEmber.

As for my other goals, the list has grown. I have released two of the four custom Magic sets and have the third almost ready. As for my move, I may have survived moving to my new community but I am certainly not thriving yet, I spend too much time at work, too many days a week.
Bike more.
Build a new PC for my brother.
Build a new PC for myself.
Create my first video.
Release four custom Magic sets this year for my friends and I to play.
Survive my move and thrive in my new community.

Consume to Produce

I can be pretty bad about actually consuming media, especially new media - new to me anyways - often just trying to do creative work without creative consumption. I made an effort and actually read or watched some really cool things. Most of them are not like Linebound but they don't have to be to fill the creative batteries. Apologies that it is mostly manga but that is what's easy for me to read before bed.

Aria

This story seems like a simple slice-of-life about people who want to be gondoliers in a recreation of Venice on Mars. Why did people remake Venice on Mars? Doesn't matter, it is about the vibes. The story establishes that a year on Mars is equal to two years on Earth - with each season lasting twice as long. The seasons pass but you forget that two seasons make up a year and before you know it, they are all older and moving on in life. I happened to read this as I was moving to a new community and leaving behind all the connections I had made. It hit harder than expected from something that - on the outside - presents itself as a slice-of-life before it morphs into a coming-of-age story.

Battle Angel Alita

I read the entire manga and it was great! The way that every man in Alita's life want her to be what they think they should be. Her dad wants her to be a dress-up doll, the guy she loves wants her to be his way out, the guy at the death derby wants her to get the victory he never could, the people in the floating city want her to be their agent, and so on. In the end it is a story about Alita finding her way in the world and doing what she wants to do.

Pluto

This was another great manga and dealt with interesting themes and ideas. A murder mystery, a robot detective, the fallout of a robot war, what more could we ask for? Can robots be people? Can they act beyond their programming? Very difficult story to set down for the night, highly recommended.

Star Trek Discovery

I love Star Trek but hadn't gotten around to Discovery. Now that I got a friend into Star Trek - a while ago - we are now watching Discovery together and I am loving it. It has some incredible scene transitions and - of course - our first lead characters that are gay on-screen and the first nonbinary crew member.
