Often I would hear people complain about the smell of hide clothing causing many use perfumes to help hide the stench. However, there is a single coat that carries a refreshing smell. Some call it the thunderhide or lightning leather but the technical name is based on the only person to have felled a stormhound - Rinaah's leather.— Takalia, A Life of Wind and Song
One-of-a-Kind
There is but one sample of
stormhound leather and it belongs to the descendants of
Rinaah who is the only person known to have slain such a creature. The only thing she would say about it is that she was not proud of it and that she was doing the creature a mercy. The hide was turned into a coat which has held up exceptionally well to age, the threads, buttons, and other pieces have all been replaced but the leather has never thinned or worn.
The appearance of this dark fur is not particularly striking - no more so than any good-quality coat - but it is undeniably from a
stormhound. Everyone nearby can tell as the coat smells like the crisp air before a thunderstorm - the smell of air struck by lightning and carried by the wind. In fact, the coat is often stored away where no one is able to smell it so that they can still detect coming storms as early as possible.

A Piece of a Legend
One story among the oral history of the
Orth is that of
Reanar's Horn. The creatures in the tale are believed to be
stormhounds. Since the
horn itself has been lost the next closest relic even related to the story is Rinaah's leather which has given the item an almost mythical status among the
Orth. The
horn had a supernatural ability to clear away the darkness and the leather clears the air.
"I know this smell, it is exactly that of my friend Rana's coat. A storm comes."— Ahriin to a confused Erevard
The quote made ma laugh, I imagine the confusion. I like that it's only about one single item, making it somewhat special and unique
