Fahraean

The people who wander to the sky.

Long before my journey brought me to Fahraea, I had met many of her people traveling to the far reaches of not only Grara but Breharan. Some are gone from their home for less than a season while others travel for years.

The Far County

The Graran county of Fahraea is populated primarily by a people who migrated there from the far side of the country. They brought with them customs and traditions that - although changed by time and circumstance - they hold to the present.   As people who live in one of the counties furthest from the power centers of the nation, they - like those of Ostad - are more concerned with their immediate neighbors than the nation as a whole and have - on the whole - not adopted much of the common cultural elements of Grara.

To See The Sky

In order to become an adult each Fahraean must make a journey to the edge of Breharan and perform the Rite of Returning. This was a lot simpler before the migration inland and while the shortest route from the county to the edge is well-worn, many choose not to take it, instead opting to travel further to perform the ritual.   This journey spreads them across Breharan and makes them well-known, well-recognized, and - often - well-received, often benefiting from the hospitality of the people they encounter during their journey.

To Be of the Soil

Many rituals and traditions of the Fahraean people involve the use of the abundant soil beneath their feet; from ritual markings drawn on bodies to the preparation of the dead, it is ubiquitous.   Though many now speak the same language as much of Grara, they maintain a unique vocabulary that contains over seventeen unique words for different types of soil.

The Lifemother

Fahraeans have their own faith that revolves around a figure known as the Lifemother. This faith has led to a special degree of reverence for women and a matriarchal order to society. It even led to the county of Fahraea being called she and her instead of it.
