Faefruit

The tempting fruit of the wild.

"Young windspeaker, should you ever travel to the Throat, you would be wise to refuse any fruit offered to you by the timeless ones that call the place home."

The Meal of a Thousand Seasons

While most stories of people being spirited away by the fae revolve around stumbling upon them dancing or singing deep in the wild, there are a handful of people who came across a banquet. Those who refused to join suddenly found themselves on the edge of the wilderness - close to home - with no idea how they got there.   The few who accepted the invitation to join ate the greatest meal of their lives surrounded the strange beings. However, nothing from the fae is free and any who partake of the fruit pay in time; by the time the meal ends, years - if not decades or centuries - have passed.

A Fruit of Many Forms

Depending on where you go, the stories of the flavor of the tricky neighbor's fruit changes. Some are sweeter than sugar, others the perfect mild sweet and a texture that is unrivaled. In a few, they are so sour they cannot be eaten and yet they can't stop being eaten.
— Takalia, Folk Stories of Grara, Vol. I
The tales vary wildly in what exactly faefruit is, what it appears to be, and how it tastes. The common consensus is that any foodstuff offered by the fae becomes faefruit. Wild berries are the most common in the stories but sometimes they appear as apples or various types of vegetables.

The Fruit of the Hunt

While most depictions of fae banquets include berries, fruits, mushrooms, and various vegetables, a couple stories told among the Mountainfolk of Bral tell of people eating the meat of beings hunted by the fae of the region.   The few people who have experienced this are said to be changed forever. Not only because they are displaced from their own times but because they gain a lust for flesh that is near-impossible to satiate. Some who are the meat of carnivores are said to have gained the ability to become animals themselves but - as with the banquet - this power is a double-edged sword and they eventually complete lose themselves to the wild.
