Shion took a deep breath and let the fire inside warm the air in his lungs. A rumble emerged from deep inside and he exhaled a ring of smoke for each of his children.   Today he added one to the count, because his goddaughter was special. In all his centuries, he'd never been a godfather before! New experiences and new children were meant to be treasured.

The world of Liminal Chronicles brings in and builds on Japanese mythology and folklore. While this setting does not represent "actual Japan", the author does her best to respect and show her love for the Japanese culture in this "world". Departures from Folklore and Culture describes where the author has chosen to deviate from real world Japan to create Liminal Chronicles.
