The Crimson Pits
A Gladiatorial fighting pit that, when not being used to further train the Tyrata military, is used to host various gladiatorial battles. All Gladiators within the Crimson Pits are Helots, be they from voluntary service to pay off debts within Tyrata, or captured from war elsewhere. While killing can occur within the Crimson Pits, it is deeply discouraged - except on special occasions.
Gladiator fights are a weekly occurrence, and betting upon the games do lead to vast sums making their way into the pockets of the elite in the city and, eventually, the city states coffers themselves.

History
While gladiatorial combat has long existed in the Selaki region, Tyrata transformed it into a refined art, reasoning that it was perhaps wicked to waste combat ready Helots on menial labor. The Crimson Pits became a way for Helots to either work off service, or earn their freedom. While differing from Gladiator to Gladiator, a Helot in the Crimson Pits often earns their freedom after Five Years of Combat.
