Undertow

No Cerescian alive has experienced Undertow for themselves. It's all been passed down from mind to mind, but even the most minute of details gets muddled along the way.

With so much of the planet’s surface covered by water, it’s only natural that NWS has yet to discover even a quarter of its biomes. But among its many beautiful ecosystems is a scar that runs deep beneath the seas. This gash, torn into the ocean floor, is known as Undertow. In ancient times, Undertow was known as the final resting place of Okeans. It was guarded by Pelagus to ensure that spirits enjoyed a peaceful afterlife. For a variety of reasons, Undertow is now considered a prison for the damned.

Undertow is a deep-sea ravine said to stretch along Okean’s equator. It is located in the planet’s hadopelagic zone and is surrounded by violent currents (giving the ravine its name), though the ravine itself is safe. It’s said to have once housed the light of Okean prior to the War of Heaven, in which beings from another world came to siphon its power. The War of Heaven concluded when a torrent of negative energy spilled from Undertow and consumed what soldiers remained. It’s believed this energy was Void-based.

Before the War of Heaven, Undertow was inhabited by the Cerescians, a psychic, aquatic subspecies of seafolk. They welcomed those that braved the ocean’s currents and served as Undertow’s custodians when the ravine still held a variety of flora and fauna.

Now, with the light of Okean gone and the Cerescians absent, Undertow is little more than an open, unhealing wound. Cerescians claim the Crown of Corona attempted to erase Undertow’s true history, yet it survives with them.
