The Brightest Flame
“The Brightest Flame” is a manifesto partially delivered as a speech by Lord L’Bael Urothenes during the House of Urothenes’ centennial. It is the only speech delivered by Lord Urothenes that is still accessible to the public, as he traditionally forbade the recording of his orations. It is considered by many Coronians to be the heart of the House of Urothenes, and all heads of the House are judged by its standards.
Purpose
The Brightest Flame was primarily a code of conduct for Lord Urothenes’ successors, including the leaders of the House of Pelagoph and House of Cynic. Lord Urothenes believed in the sovereignty and divinity of his name and kingdom, such that only those of his bloodline would be fit to lead the populace. Following this speech were numerous policies restricting numerous jobs to those without the names or blessings of the Crown of Corona. Those eligible for high-ranking positions were branded with the Seal of Suns.
"Shun the Light"
Part of the Brightest Flame’s significance is the longevity of its use in evaluating Lord L’Bael’s successors. But, less than a month after Lord Apex Urothenes’ coronation, the citizens of Corona were told to “shun the light.” While the abolishing of L’Bael’s word was met with widespread support from middle and lower class citizens, those near Lord Apex’s position framed the king’s actions as impulsive and thoughtless.
"Mere 'bread and circuses' they cried! They, who never once gave back half of what they took, call me a charlatan! But had they only half a mind, they'd see I am more than abiding by the word of my forefather. In this era, I am the Brightest Flame."
