The Wine that Fueled the Mountains

The myth of ‘The Wine that Fueled the Mountains’ is quite the popular tale in these here parts. Are you sure that you have never heard of it before? Well, if you want, I can tell you the tale.
  ***
It is said that a long time ago, before humans arrived, these lands were all but plains, with no mountains in sight. However, that soon changed with the arrival of the giants. A species of large stone beings, who left large foot falls left on the ground, which just so happened to be what are known as the Starfall Lakes to our south today.
The giants were special beings, as they didn't need to eat or drink; therefore, in the eyes of humans, they were gods. Of course, what helped the rumors was the special liquid that was made when they cried, which was named ‘Wine of Rejuvenation’. This was because when the giants cried, they would excrete tears that were this smooth, silky, and fluid, like a light oil, with the same feeling as wine when consuming too much. Said wine had various effects depending on what the giant was feeling.
You see, if the giant were feeling a negative emotion such as sadness or anger, it would have negative effects on the wine if consumed, such as extreme sickness, loss of sight, and various other things that get worse and worse with more negative emotion within the wine. However, if the giant is experiencing a positive emotion of happiness or excitement, it could have more helpful effects, such as healing properties and more, depending on how strong the positive emotions are within the wine.
Now, why do the giants cry so much in the tale? No one knows. All that we know of the giants is that most believe they became the mountains that surround this here valley, and that the waterfalls are the remnants of their tears. (However, they don’t have the same kind of abilities as the wine in the tales.)

You hooked me in right from the beginning with the title, then the first sentence! And I love that we don't know why the giants shed tears - leaves something up to the imagination. Great article! ^^b

I think a wonderful follow up would be a famous poem "I know why the Giants cry."   A great little bit of worldbuilding, thanks for sharing.

Feel free to stop by and read some of my strangely cold themed WorldEmber articles, like the mysterious Armored Forest, the wayward mage Jak of the Rime, or the deadly Trapper's Bane. For those that want to get away from the cold you could always ask Damien Dreamblossom if he has a recommendation for you...

A wonderful little bit of storytelling here! I love the mystery of the giants here, and how people don't know why thy cry. And the twist that their emotions have an effect on the "wine" is quite interesting. The whole thing seems quite poetic. Great job!
