The Grind

Across the realm in Tyr, or what little the humans of Levis reveal about it, are the ever powerful Corporations. Ruling over their fiefdoms and controlling the ever waking hour of their serfs, the corporations have encouraged a different kind of pressure. Unlike what we would cause stress, or even anxiety - both of which have granulations in their severity, the corporations have developed a low level of constant, dull nervous energy in their workers.   The term comes from the archaic idea of a grindstone, and once referred to the workload that would be required to work a job. With the idea made popular with the old termed 'tech bros' the term has been co-opted through time to refer to the sensations experienced while trying to 'make bank'. But success, too, has been robbed from the modern Tyr-ite; with only the basic struggle and drudgery of day to day left to them. And so that ever present Grind becomes the static pressure of the mind. And that is all the humans of Levis will divulge of this aspect of Tyr.   As much as the people of Levis and Infernus and Parnathus do not want the humans of Tyr into their realms, the humans of the realms do not wish for the most part to return to Tyr. In the outside realms, the Grind is lifted from their minds and bodies, the physical effects of constant stress (varied as they may be from person to person) are gone without the Grind. Folk once Grinded (for that is the past tense of Grind here) find that without the weight of the corporations their bodies start to heal, slowly at first and then faster as the constant Grind is replaced with a mix of stress and adventure and excitement. Wonder may be present too if you are lucky.

No wonder the humans don't want to go back to Tyr. I wouldn't either!
