Lichen-breath

Around Levis, and especially the species around the Forbidden Forest, the lichens grow. Orange, red-brown, blue, purple, white. Many species, all with hungry mouths willing to scrape them from their homes and shove them in their mouths. And for all but the humans and the demons that is generally an ok thing to do. Until it is not.   Unlike a regular poisoning that a human or a demon might experience from eating lichen, those native to Levis might experience from time to time a condition known as Lichen-breath. Entirely non-contagious, this dis-ease is based in the urge of the body to fight against the toxins interacting with the special gut bacteria unique to the herbivores of Levis. Many of the Lichen around levis have evolved ecosystemic traits that make them toxic to eat, however their toxicity is usually less than what say your average foliad or troll is likely to eat in one sitting - but either through prolonged consumption or extreme once off amounts, the lichen's traits can break down the gut defenses the Levis native have, resulting in an extremely unpleasant experience for all.   In medium doses a rotting breath smell is the first sign of Lichen-breath - hence the name, often accompanied by carbonation of the stomach acids - resulting in a bloating or belching experience. As dose increases this results in the obvious vomiting, like one would experience with gastro, but then the fun starts.   First is a dark blue discoloration in the flesh around the eyes. As the toxicity continues to take effect, Finger and toenails begin to feel weak and soft - this can result in them falling out should by some reason consumption continue. One would expect hair loss to follow, though a full study of the process has yet to occur as usually the patient falls unconscious at this stage, with that blue discoloration staining around the mouth and inner ears.   An apothecary or mage solution is not recorded to the toxicity.

Oh no, they definitely should avoid eating the lichen xD The rotting breath sounds (smells?) bad enough!
