Fashion Week

Once, twice, three times a lady.

Many events in Natare come from festivals and rituals from the past brought forwards, and stripped of their religious connontations. For the people of a city enamored with feeling modern and fresh and secular, it was a small thing that bought about a new festival to support.

Once:

The first fashion week was when a student  of the Academy of Natare attempted to graduate from Primus rank in arts via the medium of fashion. She led more of a fashion night, walking 21 models between the lounge Moonlit Melodies and the arboretum, where each model would present before the judging comittee. Unfortunately the 21st model fled the stage during the event and the student was deemed inelligable to count this event as her graduating moment.

Twice:

Given permission to attempt to submit a second time a year later, the student made a week of it, pulling other tailors, designers and artists into the event. Several makers of accessories were traded favors to set up stalls along the eventual runway path, and to supply display pieces for the final show.

Three times:

After the graduation of the student and with so much tourism brought to the city last year, Natare city council  in their supreme wisdom arranged to bring back the student and several new tailors and fund the fashion week as their own event. Honeysuckle mead was created as a tribute to the student, and prizes were arranged so that those of a creative bent would feel encouraged to be involved.   Going forth, the week would also be one of enhanced and eclectic styles, with people selecting and trying out outfits and fashion choices they might not feel comfortable experimenting with on other weeks.   At the end of the week, a show is put on where representatives walk that original space between Moonlit Melodies and the arboretum.

I really liked the out of the box idea for the origins of this tradition! I wish I could learn more about the student that started this :)

She is in the manuscript I'm working on, and also in a drafts folder along with friends as I suck at character articles
