Leviathan Origins and Culture

Leviathans - Origins   Leviathans or (“Levs” in human slang) are an extraterrestrial race originating from an unknown water planet inspired by Kepler-22b (this planet is referred to as “Tartarus” by humanity). It’s unknown nature comes from the lack of information on this planet, as Leviathans have done well to prevent this information falling into enemy hands. Tartarus is not all water as there are islands and small continents although these bare little intelligent life apart from Wyverns. Leviathans originate from the ocean and need breathing masks when walking on land and other worlds.   Leviathans - Culture   Their society is based on a survival of the fittest mentality with reproduction being heavily controlled and the population frequently being tested in trial by combat. Any of those that are deemed unworthy are marked and forced into slavery or killed. Within their society names are not given at birth but are granted similar to a medal. Anyone without a name is referred to by their biological cell number. Because of the way they structure society many high profile generals and soldiers are given special augmentations to improve work in battle.   They have 2 kings technically referred to as the Emperor (Rhapt) and the God (Prhasst). The Warrior is just the best of the species and is elected via political clans. These political clans act similar to our own political parties apart from one thing. Due to the nature of their society the clan's leader fights in a fight-to-the-death tournament for the position, the winner becoming The Rhapt. These tournaments happen every 6 years. Clan leaders are elected in a similar fashion but on a smaller scale within the clan and these tournaments are not shown publicly unlike the main tournament.   The Prhasst is this ancient octopus creature that can partially see into the future and so this species elected it as a secondary king that advises them but doesn't actually control them. The Prhasst is small and weak, it has no skeleton, its organs are visible under its thin skin and with each heartbeat it violently shakes. By every stretch of the imagination is an unholy creature. Cursed to a permanent life of suffering it has only one advantage. It’s mind. Having (although fairly weak) abilities of telepathy and precognition, early Leviathan explorers made a deal to protect the Prhasst in exchange for use of its abilities. Within the Humo-Leviathan War its abilities have proved exceptional, predicting enemy attacks leading to humans being on the back foot for the majority of the war. Until its death at the hands of Ground-Force Delta.
