Dimitris of Vlan was a Zhean scientist who created the Vlan and helped develop their culture, language, and religion. Today he is remembered as the ancient father of the Vlan, and his creations have honored him by building hundreds of buildings and statues in his honor.

Education

Dimitris studied for five years in the government-owned Tan Lea Institute of Genetic Technology. He failed to develop an interest in genetic engineering and his performance in the institute was mediocre at best. Despite the alterations that had been performed on him to turn the young boy into a smarter scientist, Dimitris preferred reading books of great military campaigns over the boring textbooks that his father kept giving him.

Creator

Dimitris' most significant accomplishment was the creation of an entirely new species. Such a feat had already been accomplished in 5554 BA when the dantuir were created, but what made his creation, the vlan, stand out was that they were able to reproduce. Once he had created enough Vlan for their species to have become completely self-sufficient, he looked for other ways to aid his new children.

His children needed a guiding hand and someone to teach them right from wrong. The Sun-Priests praised him for creating the new species, and they wanted him to explain the Vlan the Zhean way of life. Dimitris refused.

Visionary

Feeling inspired to put his skills to use for even more ambitious projects, Dimitris began coming up with plans on how to make interspecies reproduction a reality. He felt terrible for all mixed-species couples who couldn't have children and wanted to help by genetically modifying them to make it possible. Unfortunately for him and perhaps the whole world, after months of hard work he had discovered that he had cancer.

The members of the sun-worshipping clergy could have cured him, but since they didn't approve of his plans and what he had already accomplished, they refused. Dimitris hoped that he could uncover their secret method for curing the condition, but alas he died soon after and with him died all hope for interspecies reproduction.
