The military forces of Highspire. While less numerous than the militaries of other nations, Highspire's army can field a terrifying array of mystical and alchemical war machines.
Highspire's military is grouped by battlefield role, with a medical corp, artillery corp, infantry, etc. Like its education system, the Highspire military values theory, education and demonstrated talent. Its emphasis on meritocracy and willingness to train anyone have lead to the institution becoming a vehicle for social mobility, with those who show a talent for war hoping to "rise" in the world through their service. Nor does it hurt that the fearsome nature of Highspire's chemical weapons make open conflict with the city-state rare.
