Ispelpus

Ispelpus is a powder derived from the slime left behind by the Chalini following the species's transformation to its mature form. The combination of the enzyme secreted during the metamorphosis with its outer body creates a hallucinogenic compound that can be harnessed by dehydrating the remains and turning them into a powder. While this powder can be used as-is by inhaling it through the nose, it has been commonly used by healers and religious figures of the Rinduma in a variety of potions and religious traditions.   The timing of the preparation of ispelpus alligns with southern Cosonia's harvest season. For this reason, it was believed among the Rinduma that ingestion of fresh ispelpus would bring visions of the changes in the coming rebirth cycle and grant good fortune for the harvest and overwinter preparation. The exact timing of this tradition, called Precycle Eve, varies depending on the community.   While ispelpus has been in use as a hallucinogen for over a thousand years, it has only been recently that its reaction with Knorereite under ultraviolet light has been identified. The resulting Knorelpus Cement is the strongest type of non-aggriat cement known in Leland. This discovery has yet to be put into widespread use in Cosonia, let alone the rest of Leland, but it will likely drive up the demand for ispelpus in the coming decades. There is also now a push for more in depth research into the properties of ispelpus and how it reacts to other wavelengths of light.
