Solar Sailing

Solar sailing is a method of travelling at FTL speeds using a combination of exotic solar particles and barrier fields to create a hyperlight wave which allows ships to effect superluminal travel. It's used primarily by colonies further spinward from the Federacy, and though slower and less efficient than the Federacy's FTL systems, it did allow secondary colonization of other nearby worlds.   Solar sailing allows travelling at speeds of approximately one hex per month, or roughly one fifth the speed of the Federacy's space travel speeds.
