Calendar

Time on Celesia can be broken down into seconds, with sixty seconds forming one minute, sixty minutes form one hour, twenty-four hours form one day. Seven days form one week, chosen because the number seven is both an arcane and divine number, and three hundred sixty-six days form one year. There is an additional day added to the calendar every four years to compensate for its imprecision in regards to the planet's actual orbit.

The calendar year is further divided into twelve months based on the lunar cycle of her moon Minué. Each month starts on the new moon, and the cycle lasts roughly a little over thirty days. To line up this imprecision to the calendar, each month alternates between having thirty and thirty-one days. Each month is named after the greater and intermediate deities of the global Celesian pantheon, and some months would occasionally be renamed when one of those deities is succeeded by a new god. The last time the months were renamed was at the start of the 5th Age, over five thousand years ago.

Overall, Celesia experiences four seasons: winter, spring, summer, and autumn, although the length of each varies as one travels north to south.

The modern calendar has been developed by the Argent Rose Society, after many years of studying various methods of tracking time around the globe, and in consultation with many dominant religions. As the Society became more entrenched around the world, this calendar became more standard. Although many regions still maintain their own local traditional calculations and naming conventions, the Argent Rose calendar is commonly used when dealing with foreigners.
