Left Behind

The calm year

A universe of worlds adjacent to our own. Teeming with creatures who look like us. Like our reality. Unlike their contemporary ancestors, they have magic in their eyes, even if it's just a spark. The cosmos collected in their hearts, the stars in their heads. The place where science and magic marry. That's where they can live. Creatures beyond comprehension are comprehended. Children dance along asteroid belts. Love has many names. Self has infinite forms. What if Afro Cadets surfed solar waves. What if fairies were around for all of history. What's the difference between golem's and aliens. Humans and humanoids. Earth is no longer humanity’s protagonist. It is a small thriving hometown that many grew out of. That isn’t to say it’s a desolate waste, the opposite in fact. But no longer is human and earthling interchangeable. Those humans that left fought endless uncountable wars for sides whose borders blurred even to those on the front lines. Until the unplanned year of calm. There were no active wars, no battlefields, an intergalactic exhale. How long it will last not even the greatest strategists can truly say, but for now, they enjoy the silence.
