Netrunners
The Netrunners are hackers taken to the ultimate extreme. They are less of just your run-of-the-mill hit and run coders, rather, small groups of dedicated individuals set on unraveling the mysteries that are kept behind the protection of the Netrunners. The first Netrunners were Haitian immigrants that landed in East Marina 10 years ago on board a Silk Road smuggling ship and found the same censorship and misinformation in Los Angeles that drove them away from their native Haiti. Instead of choosing to accept the way of things in America, they decided to do something about it.
They developed a technique of submerging oneself in sensory deprivation tanks filled with ice water to numb their senses and then jack into the net using specially designed implants in the back of their brain. Now, the way of life those first few hackers created is still active and thriving in the underbellies of the city; determined to crack the code that the nations higher-ups are so desperate to keep behind locked doors.
Public Agenda
The Netrunners want to crack the Great Firewall and find out what the government is hiding behind the veil.
