The Scouts of Seroma
The current ecology of Seroma is dying because of an oversaturation of magic in the primary ecosystems of the planet, the overpowering molecules that make up the properties of magic are causing crops to wither in the tainted soil, the air and water is leading to many animals becoming sick an dieing, and areas of the land are becoming grey, dry and barren. This was brought about due to decades of an overreliance on magic in everyday life, such as using nature magic to grow crops faster, creating water using magic instead of obtaining it naturally and beliefs that magic use is an important right for everyone that has it, these are only a few examples of how life was like in modern day Seroma. The people of Seroma are faced with a population collapse unless they either rapidly change their magic-centered society or find new place to settle in. As the politicians search for methods to quell their deeply rooted laws and values, they quickly put in motion their own Plan B, an emergency relocation to the neighboring planet of Lantani. The planet of Latani is almost as close as a moon would be in terms of spacial distance, only kept apart thanks to the opposing magnetic fields of the planets. However, the only real method of reaching Latani is that of one-way teleportation magic, namely the Pillars of Light spell that light magic users weild, and even then becasue of the distance, it would take a large group of trained professionals a long time to teleport only a handful of people at a time. On top of that, Latani was always rumoured to be a barren, dark place full of monsters and death, and in Creationism faith it is written that Latani is the planet where The Creator banished his four evil and traitorous children, turning the planet into a sinful world full of all forms of the impure and inhuman. All these factors kept the people of Seroma from ever venturing there, aside from the events of the Great Banishement. However, now with times being desperate, the people of Seroma need a new place to live, but to avoid perminently settling into unknown territory, a plan was set in place to map out the land, study its creatures and document whatever else might be waiting on Latani.
A small scout team was made, consisting of 3 scrybes, 20 soldiers, 6 light users trained in teleportation magic, 10 scientists of various fields, 4 survivalists, 4 medical staff, 7 government representitives and one Creationist priest. This group of 55 men and women were to set off on a one-way trip to Latani in order to document as many findings as they could within a three month window to determine whether or not immigrating to Latani is a possibility for them. Aided by a caravan of horses, wagons and carrages, they were given enough food for the three months. The six light magic users of the group had the job of sending the scout group back home after their three month excursion, meaning that for them, it was truely going to be a one-way trip for the greater good of Seroma, at least that was the plan. The group now known as the Scouts of Seroma were teleported to the planet of Latani on the fifth month of 1555, and were met with a surprisingly normal looking world. They landed in an area known as the Zarski Wilds, an area of rolling hills and small forests, and in the initial three days of their mission, they faced no major problems, they had confirmed that monsters and dragons of differnt species roamed the lands of Latani, but it was nothing that the soldiers could not deal with. Their smooth mission of survaying, studying and documenting came to a quick end however when the Darklord Tasuman arrived to attack the small caravan with a small force of his army. Tasuman had witnessed the great pillar of light from the sky and was the first to investigate, with him bearing a heavy grudge against the world that banished his people, he decided that he needed prisoners for questioning, as well as a small hint of vengence. He attacked the group in force, decimating their warriors, taking some of the scientists and government officials captive for questioning on the purpose of their visit, the rest of the Scouts of Seroma were scattered in the chaos of the battle and left alone and separated among the wilds of Latani.
